Pilgrimages & Group Travel
A pilgrimage starts at home—upon feeling the call to leave what’s known and comfortable behind to pursue a journey of personal transformation and renewal of spirit. Sometimes this feeling is sparked by transition, change, or loss. Other times, driven by an overarching desire to expand or grow. After heeding the call, the transformation and renewal begins in form by leaving home and embarking on an arduous journey to a meaningful destination. The pilgrimage closes with ceremony at the destination and ultimately, a return home, with inspiration and fresh perspective. Regardless of the pilgrim’s reasons for travel, the experience is often enhanced by novelty, personal connections, and awe encountered on the road.
“I was surprised, as always, by how easy the act of leaving was, and how good it felt. The world was suddenly rich with possibility.”
—Jack Kerouac
While traveling throughout 2024 and 2025 on my way to becoming a UNESCO “dual-pilgrim”, completing sections of El Camino de Santiago in Spain and the Kumano Kodo in Japan and exploring several places in between, I conducted research and made connections with local people with intentions of creating offerings leading others in small groups in the future. Travel and learning about other cultures have long been passions of mine. It’s my hope that I can share some of the experiences I’ve had as well as my appreciation for what Phil Cousineau calls “the art of pilgrimage” with others that feel the call in places special to me.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
—Mark Twain
If you are interested in getting out of your comfort zone, connecting with different cultures and customs, upping your doses of natural beauty, and adventure, and importantly, rediscovering yourself as you navigate new environments and experiences… let’s talk! I’d love to travel alongside you as your host with, in most cases, support from local, in-country residents. These trips will include aspects of coaching/personal development, soulful conversations, opportunities to responsibly and ethically give back to local communities that give so much to us as visitors… and of course, we’ll have a lot of fun along the way.
“A true pilgrimage requires letting go of the very things most people try to hold onto. In seeking after what the soul desires, we become pilgrims with no home but the path the soul would have us follow.”
—Michael Meade
